Creation of an Inter-Balkan Network of Performing Arts: Terms and Conditions

Universitatea Naţională de artă teatrală şi cinematografică “I.L. Caragiale” Bucureşti a participat la prima Conferinţă interbalcanică organizată la Salonic în data de 16-17 martie 2025 intitulată Creation of an Inter-Balkan Network of Performing Arts: Terms and Conditions. Evenimentul a fost organizat de Teatrul Naţional al Greciei de Nord (NTNG) şi de Masterul de Arte Performative (PEA) al Universităţii Hellenic Open. 

  Întâlnirea între reprezentanţi ai universităţilor din zona artelor performative şi reprezentanţi ai instituţiilor culturale şi-a propus să creeze o platformă pentru convergența culturilor balcanice în domeniul artelor spectacolului. Mai exact, prin combinarea domeniului practic-artistic cu domeniul academic-științific, Consiliul Ştiinţific şi organizatorii îşi propun o abordare comprehensivă a artelor spectacolului prin colaborarea reciprocă și schimbul de moșteniri culturale, resurse umane, inițiative artistice şi educaţionale. 

UNATC I.L. Caragiale a fost reprezentată la Salonic de Rectorul său – Prof. univ. dr. habil. Liviu Lucaci, de conf. univ. dr. Mihaela Beţiu, de Lect. univ. dr. Oana Borş şi de o parte dintre studenţii anului III Actorie: Mariam Alchihabi, Cosmin Lipovanu, Valeria Barba, Matei Stăncuța, Victoria Ionescu, Ştefan Vătăşoiu. Aceştia, sub coordonarea conferenţiar Mihaela Beţiu, au prezentat scene din Orestia de Eschil şi Medeea de Euripide. Studenţii greci coordonaţi de Professor Giannis Rigas au prezentat scene din Odiseea lui Homer. 

Conferinţa, organizată şi moderată de Professor Phd Andreas Markantonatos (University of the Peloponnese şi Hellenic Open University), Professor PhD Despina Kosmopoulou (Hellenic Open University of Athens), Professor Emerita Varvara Georgopoulou (University of the Peloponnese) şi de Asterios Peltekis (Directorul Teatrului Naţional NTNG) a fost organizată pe mai multe paneluri: Balkans and Performing Arts – Theory and Practice, General Reflections, Ideas and Perspectives: Looking Towards the Future, Intercultural Experiments and Practical Dimensions, Balkan localities: Education/Culture. 

  Conferinţa s-a încheiat cu lansarea volumului Contemporary Perspectives on Greek Theatre (ISBN – 978-606-082-048-2), editat de Andreas Markantonatos, Mihaela Beţiu and Despina Kosmopoulou. Volumul este publicat de către editura Universităţii Naţionale de artă teatrală şi cinematografică I.L. Caragiale, face parte din colecţia CONCEPT STUDIES şi lansarea sa în cadrul conferinţei interbalcanice marchează prima lansare internaţională a unui volum UNATC PRESS.

The National University of Theatre and Cinematography “I.L. Caragiale” Bucharest participated in the first Inter-Balkan Conference organized in Thessaloniki on March 16-17, 2025 entitled Creation of an Inter-Balkan Network of Performing Arts: Terms and Conditions. The event was organized by the National Theatre of Northern Greece (NTNG) and the Master of Performing Arts (PEA) of the Hellenic Open University. 

The meeting between representatives of universities in the performing arts area and representatives of cultural institutions aimed to create a platform for the convergence of Balkan cultures in the field of performing arts. More precisely, by combining the practical-artistic field with the academic-scientific field, the Scientific Council and the organizers propose a comprehensive approach to the performing arts through mutual collaboration and the exchange of cultural heritage, human resources, artistic and educational initiatives. 

UNATC I.L. Caragiale was represented in Thessaloniki by its Rector – Prof. univ. dr habil. Liviu Lucaci, by Assoc. Prof. PhD Mihaela Beţiu, by Lect. PhD Oana Borş and by some of the 3rd year Acting students: Mariam Alchihabi, Cosmin Lipovanu, Valeria Barba, Matei Stăncuța, Victoria Ionescu, Ştefan Vătăşoiu. They, under the coordination of Associate Professor Mihaela Beţiu, presented scenes from Aeschylus’ Oresteia and Euripides’ Medea. The Greek students, coordinated by Professor Giannis Rigas, presented scenes from Homer’s Odyssey.

The conference, organized and moderated by Professor Phd Andreas Markantonatos       (University of the Peloponnese and Hellenic Open University), Professor PhD Despina Kosmopoulou (Hellenic Open University of Athens), Professor Emerita Varvara Georgopoulou (University of the Peloponnese) and Asterios Peltekis (Director of the National Theatre of Northern Greece)  was organized on several panels: Balkans and Performing Arts – Theory and Practice, General Reflections, Ideas and Perspectives: Looking Towards the Future, Intercultural Experiments and Practical Dimensions, Balkan localities: Education/Culture. 

The conference ended with the launch of the volume Contemporary Perspectives on Greek Theatre (ISBN – 978-606-082-048-2), edited by Andreas Markantonatos, Mihaela Beţiu and Despina Kosmopoulou. The volume is published by the National University of Theatre and Cinematography I.L. Caragiale, is part of the CONCEPT STUDIES collection and its launch within the inter-Balkan conference marks the first international launch of a UNATC PRESS volume.
