Touching on the repetitive nature of the processes involved in acts of labour, the physical toil they entail or on how they are perceived, the short films focus on revealing often invisible, hidden or even unimaginable layers in the social phenomenon of labour, raising questions such as: Which types of labour are generally found in the city centre and which ones at the outskirts? What is typical in the work field of a city or, on the contrary, unusual? Thus, the project aims, more specifically, to problematize the language and rhetoric underpinning audiovisual representations of labour.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe task at hand is to present the topic \u00abwork\u00bb \/ \u00ablabour\u00bb by means of a single video sequence; in other words, [participants] will produce videos consisting of only one sequence. The topic is work; paid, unpaid, material or immaterial, traditional or entirely new. This assignment formally introduces the foundations of filming, given that [participants] need to find out: When can a beginning and even an end be found if a repetitive process is being shown? Should the camera be moved or stand still? What is the best way to capture the choreography of a work process in a single sequence? Early films told us: Every detail of the mobile world is worth being documented and considered. And they had a fixed point of view, whereas today\u2019s documentary film only too often presents sequence upon sequence because it is undecided.\u201d (Harun Farocki \/ Antje Ehmann)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Harun Farocki GbR in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Bucharest, the National University of Theatre and Film \u201eIon Luca Caragiale\u201d Bucharest, the German Cultural Center Timi\u0219oara and the Ephemair Association offers this unique workshop for filmmakers, video artists and film students. The workshop will be held on-site, between August 27 and September 15, at the National University of Theatre and Film Bucharest. However, because of the Covid pandemic the workshop could take place either as an online event or in a hybrid format.
